Special inspection services for your
The construction and inspections process can be complex and often confusing. With our technical expertise and efficient process, we help your project move along quickly and finish on time — with results that are aligned with your project designs and in compliance with approved plans and specifications.
OT (Architectural) and Progress Inspections
We inspect rated partitions for proper construction as well as review existing and new construction for proper fire-stopping, fire-proofing, emergency lighting (Public Assembly spaces), and egress path marking. Upon completion of the work, UBSL performs a final construction inspection per Directive 14.
Inspection of mechanical / HVAC systems is usually a multi-step process. We work with the project team to ensure that all approved component parts of the system are in place and connected, and oversee testing if required by the system type like smoke control and emergency power systems.
Energy Code Inspections
Most projects require an analysis of energy usage to file for permits. We verify that the lighting (fixture type and quantity), insulation, duct sealing and testing, electric motors, and water heating equipment are properly installed and meet the project specifications.
Sprinkler / Standpipe (Fire Suppression Systems)
Sprinkler and standpipe systems are critical for life safety in your buildings. We witness hydrostatic testing and perform inspections of piping, hangers / suspension systems, sprinkler heads, and fire suppression coverage for conformance with the NYC-DOB approved drawings.
Whether it’s new construction or modification of existing structures, UBSL can perform a full range of structural inspections including sub-grade, piles, concrete cast in place, steel erection (welding / bolting / details) to curtain wall / window wall systems to ensure the stability of the new work.
Specialty and Miscellaneous Inspections
In addition to smoke control and emergency and standby power systems, UBSL has experts on staff to inspect and oversee testing of kitchen exhaust systems (duct leakage and insulation) and on-site storm water drainage disposal systems and detention facilities.
UBSL has become an integral part of our project team at NYPQ performing inspections on all projects ranging from minor renovations to major capital upgrades. Their knowledge of the level of care needed for hospital construction has helped us meet our project goals and ensured compliance with the rigid standards of the hospital oversight agencies.

The secret to an effective special inspection program is all in the process
Transparent and open communication. Clear-cut processes. That’s what makes all the difference. Here’s how we work:
We meet with the client, contractor, and design team to discuss the inspections we need to complete as outlined by the designer as well as establish communication protocols.
Our team coordinates with all the players involved so they know when to engage us in the process and what information we need to perform inspections. This results in timely outcomes for our clients.
Our inspectors provide a report with pictures and plan mark-ups to detail any deficiencies and if reinspection is required. We notify the contractor of any issues before we leave the site and review reports with them to confirm that they know what needs to be corrected or if they are cleared to proceed with work.
Taking the perspective of our clients, we coordinate diligently with the project team to ensure all inspections are completed and documentation is received to facilitate the sign off process. Our goal is to make the process easy and worry-free for our clients.
We turn a headache-inducing process into a stress-free experience
UBSL is a client-focused special inspections company in NYC, working with property owners and tenants to streamline the inspections process.
